I have a series of plants just in front of some blackberry brambles that I've been fighthing. They resemble blackberry bushes that are just starting up, a little less than a foot tall with similar leaves. However, the jagged edges of the leaves are slightly smoother than my all too familiar blackberry leaves and the flowers are a cheerful yellow instead of white. So far, I haven't seen any thorns on them - only a fuzziness on the stems. Anybody know what these plants might be?

Is this it? Large-leaved avens is a native weedy species. It's a rose relative like blackberry, which is why the leaves and flowers look similar. In the fall, it makes fragile little burrs which will get stuck on your clothes and in your pet's fur, if you have one. They are a minor annoyance, not worth fighting.

Thanks! That might be right. I'll have to compare when I'm home. If the avens aren't too aggressive, I'll probably just let them be. I'll take anything over dandelions and blackberry brambles.
